 Dr. Tom's Summer Sermon Series
The How to Read the Bible Summer Sermon Series walks through each literary style found in the Bible, and how each uniquely contributes to the overall whole.  While the Bible is one unified story, it cannot all be read in the same way, as each literary style lives by its own rules and structure.

This Summer sermon series shoud help you understand what the Bible is, and the story it tells.  But, perhaps even more importantly, it will teach you how to read it for yourself in light of the various literary styles that make each section of the Bible unique in its own way.

By the end of this summer sermon series, you will be familiar with every part of the Bible and how it uses language to communicate who God is, who we are, and the big redemptive story that we are all living.

July 1 - The Bible as Jewish Meditation Literature

July 8 - Plot in Biblical Narrative

July 15 - Eula Preaching

July 22 - Character in Biblical Narrative

July 29 - Setting in Biblical Narrative

Aug. 5 - Design Patterns in Biblical Narrative

Aug. 12 - The Art of Biblical Poetry

Open Communion.  The Lord's Supper, or Communion, is celebrated in weekly worship and is open to All.

The Oneness of the Church.  All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for common witness and service.

Freedom of Belief.  As Disciples, we are called together around two essentials of faith: a belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and that Christians are free to follow their conscience guided by Bible study, and Holy Spirit and prayer. We are expected to extend that freedom to others.

Baptism by Immersion.  In baptism, the old self-centered life is set aside, washed away and a new life of trust in God begins. Although Disciples practice baptism by immersion, other baptism traditions are honored.

The Ministry of Believers.  Both ministers and lay persons lead in worship, service and spiritual growth.  We believe in the ministry of all believers. You will see men and women and youth serving in all phases of church life. Giving to support the church and it's ministry is viewed as a Christian opportunity.

And above all that, Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God, who offers saving grace to all who seek it through His Son.
