Bridging the Gap

About 300 Oklahoma children (80 in the OKC area) are in foster care; and, when they “age-out” of that care, there are no specific arrangements for the next step in their lives – not just their housing, but once that is attained, the means to set up their living situations.

Bridging the Gap is a NCCC ministry designed to respond to the needs of these youth.  In cooperation with Youth Villages (an established ministry that works with teens to find housing and develop life skills), once housing has been secured, we will help in the transition into independent living by providing basic linens and eating utensils.   Each youth will receive:
New items:  1 set of Twin sheets and pillowcases, 1 pillow, 1 blanket, 2 towels and wash cloths, 2 trash bags and 1 laundry basket. 

New or “gently used” items”:  2 each – drinking glasses, plates, bowls, mugs, flatware, 1 pan and/or 1 skillet 

Please mark them “Bridging the Gap”
Items can be brought to the church any time.

Open Communion.  The Lord's Supper, or Communion, is celebrated in weekly worship and is open to All.

The Oneness of the Church.  All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for common witness and service.

Freedom of Belief.  As Disciples, we are called together around two essentials of faith: a belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and that Christians are free to follow their conscience guided by Bible study, and Holy Spirit and prayer. We are expected to extend that freedom to others.

Baptism by Immersion.  In baptism, the old self-centered life is set aside, washed away and a new life of trust in God begins. Although Disciples practice baptism by immersion, other baptism traditions are honored.

The Ministry of Believers.  Both ministers and lay persons lead in worship, service and spiritual growth.  We believe in the ministry of all believers. You will see men and women and youth serving in all phases of church life. Giving to support the church and it's ministry is viewed as a Christian opportunity.

And above all that, Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God, who offers saving grace to all who seek it through His Son.
